A unicorn becomes a human figure associated with instrumental music and bending trees. Amdusias’s first-edition sound clause is unusually exact: the instruments are heard, but ‘not soon or immediately’. [1]

Music and inclined trees

Amdusias first appears like a unicorn and becomes human at the exorcist’s request. Trumpets and other musical instruments are then heard, though not soon or immediately. He also makes trees bend and incline according to the caller’s will, gives excellent familiars and governs twenty-nine legions. [1]

Unseen instruments in Scot

Scot’s Amduscias makes instruments heard without being seen. The 1904 sentence instead qualifies the timing of the sound. [1][2]
