The Brass VesselThe Seventy-Two Spirits · 37
Also recorded as Pheynix
Phenex sings with a child’s voice before becoming a human speaker. The phoenix-shaped marquis is an excellent poet and a willing servant, with a hope of returning to the seventh throne after 1,200 more years. [1]
Goetia 1904
Phenex appears like the bird phoenix and sings many sweet notes in a child’s voice. The historical encounter tells the exorcist not to heed the singing but to require human shape. In that form he speaks wonderfully about the sciences when asked, is a good and excellent poet, and willingly performs requests. [1]
He commands twenty legions. As he tells Solomon, he also hopes to return to the seventh throne after another twelve centuries. [1]
Scot’s Phœnix extends the instruction about the melody to the exorcist’s companions as well. The whole company is to give it no ear before the command to become human. [1][2]
