Eligos appears as a handsome knight with lance, ensign and serpent. His knowledge concerns hidden matters and the coming encounters of armies; his social gift is the favour of lords and great people. [1]
The Goetia gives Eligos a knight’s appearance: a lance, an ensign or military standard, and a serpent. His offices concern discovery and foresight. He reveals hidden things, knows what is to come, and knows of wars and how soldiers will meet. [1]
He also causes the love of lords and great persons. This great duke commands sixty legions. [1]
The sceptre and the serpent
Scot names Eligor and Abigor. His knight carries a sceptre as the third object beside lance and ensign, where the Goetia gives a serpent. He already knows hidden matters, future events, wars and soldiers’ meetings; the favoured company is described as lords and knights rather than lords and great persons. [1][2]
