In the male from Mount Halcon, the upper forewing is black with elongated grey-white central streaks and smaller pale spots near the apex. The upper hindwing is predominantly black, with an elongated yellow patch near its inner edge. On the underside, the forewing markings are more conspicuous, while the hindwing bears red basal marks and a broad fan of yellow streaks separated by black veins, followed by yellow spots within the dark outer border. [2][6]
Nakano described hidecoae in 1993; Treadaway’s 1995 Philippine checklist listed it at species rank. [5]
Keep the enclosure away from direct sunlight, dampness and large changes in temperature or humidity. Handle the frame, clean only its exterior, and inspect for loose fragments, moisture and pests. Retain the specimen’s original labels and follow the enclosure maker’s care instructions. [4]
