Delias henningia
Lepidoptera / Pieridae
A Philippine and Bornean jezebel whose larvae use Glochidion zeylanicum, a documented departure from mistletoe feeding within Delias.
Read the species account
The upper forewing band is bluish-grey in males and white in females. Below, the corresponding band is white in both sexes, and the hindwing has a yellow field. [2]
Braby and colleagues documented Glochidion zeylanicum, in Phyllanthaceae, as a larval food plant on Luzon and Mindanao. This confirmed an earlier record of Glochidion use on Palawan. [3]
The 2025 review identified Phyllanthaceae use by henningia as a host shift from the mistletoe-feeding ancestry of its lineage. The study placed this record alongside independently evolved changes in larval food plants elsewhere in Aporiina. [3]
Eschscholtz described henningia in 1821. The name voconia denotes the Bohol population. [2]
The male’s bluish-grey dorsal forewing band becomes white below. Female forewing bands are white on both surfaces. [2]
The illustrations preserve the forewing band and yellow hindwing field on their labelled surfaces. These surface-specific characters are essential to the adult comparison.
Keep the enclosure away from direct sunlight, dampness and large changes in temperature or humidity. Handle the frame, clean only its exterior, and inspect for loose fragments, moisture and pests. Retain the specimen’s original labels and follow the enclosure maker’s care instructions. [4]
