The Pentacles

The 3rd Pentacle of Jupiter

The third Jupiter pentacle protects someone calling spirits and promises their immediate obedience when it is shown. Two smaller seals share a divided circle with divine names, surrounded by Mount Zion’s image of unshaken endurance. [1]

Protection during the appearance

The third notice protects people who invoke spirits and cause them to come. Once the spirits appear, the pentacle is shown to them, and the notice says that they immediately obey. [1]

Two seals in the divided circle

A cross quarters the circular field. In the upper-left is a small circle crossed by two diagonal lines, with four small circles at the ends and IHVH inside. Mathers identifies this as Jupiter’s magical seal. Below it is a curved, angular-ended line with small circular terminals, identified as the seal of Jupiter’s intelligence, a planetary spiritual power in his terminology. [1]

Adonai fills the upper-right compartment, and IHVH the lower-right. The outer Hebrew band bears Psalm 125:1, with a small six-pointed star at its top. [1]

Mount Zion’s endurance

The verse compares those who trust in IHVH to Mount Zion, which cannot be moved and remains for ever. The next line of Psalm 125 widens the image: as mountains surround Jerusalem, the Lord surrounds the people. The passage ends with a prayer for good to the upright and peace upon Israel. [1][2]
