Mimathyma schrenckii
Lepidoptera / Nymphalidae
Schrenck’s emperor has a broad pale hindwing band and separate white forewing marks. Korean records document one annual brood, overwintering larvae, woodland host trees and sex differences in adult feeding behaviour.

Mimathyma schrenckii belongs to Nymphalidae, subfamily Apaturinae. Apatura schrenckii and Adolias schrenckii are historical generic combinations. [2]
The Korean treatment describes one annual brood, with adults from mid-June to early September. Larvae are solitary and usually overwinter in the third instar, sheltered on their food plants. [2]
Korean hosts include Ulmus davidiana var. japonica, U. parvifolia and Zelkova serrata. Russian records include Carpinus cordata and Ulmus laciniata. [2]
Males are encountered along streams and forest paths, where they visit fermenting fluids. Afternoon circling above trees is also recorded. Females are less often observed at these feeding sites. [2]
The broad pale band and smaller white forewing marks remain distinct within dark wing fields. Restrained internal lines preserve their boundaries. [1][2]
Protect the specimen from handling, bright direct light and moisture. A closed enclosure reduces dust accumulation around the fragile wing edges.
How does it overwinter in Korea? Larvae usually spend winter in the third instar, sheltered on their food plants. [2]
Which adult behaviour is recorded? Males visit fermenting fluids beside streams and forest paths and may circle above trees in the afternoon. [2]
The Korean Apaturinae treatment documents larval development, hosts and adult behaviour. Harvard and Kyungpook National University collections provide identified specimens and locality records. [1][2][3]
